What is a Yoga Swing?

Free Form Yoga with the Yoga Swing

Everybody is familiar with yoga; there’s Hatha, Vinyasa, Power Yoga and Bikram Yoga among many other variations. A new form of yoga has arrived in the form of the yoga sling. This is a strap system that eliminates the tense muscular positions inherent in traditional yoga practice. The familiar poses are performed either supported or in mid air in order to remove physical barriers and allow the practitioner enhanced comfort and freedom of motion.

The yoga swing is a set of straps that may be hung easily in a tree, at a playground or on a porch. It can be placed anywhere there is a strong support beam. The device allows for advanced practice yoga poses and also can provide you with a very comprehensive full body strength and core workout. A set of instructions accompanies the device illustrating the many exercises possible while using the device.

The device can also be used to practice inversion therapy. This type of therapy allows you to suspend yourself in the upside down position. Inversion therapy has been shown to alleviate back pain, improve flexibility and improve your mood through passive stretching exercises. In contrast to the traditional inversion therapy table, the yoga sling allows you to hang freely suspended and adjust your position for personal comfort.

Since the yoga swing can support your full body weight it is also perfect for gentle stretching as well as free form yoga manoeuvres. This feature of gravity free yoga allows you to perform poses that you may never have attempted before. Gravity free yoga is performed using the supportive straps of the yoga swing, thus eliminating limitations caused by employing your body weight in the yoga poses. The straps may be adjusted to incorporate as much or as little of your body weight as you see necessary in the yoga position.

This device can also be used in conjunction with a partner. The partner may incorporate massage and traction to your position or they may simply allow you more freedom of expression through alternate acrobatic manoeuvres. The beauty of the yoga sling is in its infinitive versatility as a form of exercise and recreation.

Hello my name is Carlo Fornaro and welcome to my personal review of the Omgym Yoga Swing.

Note:  This a review, click here if you want to visit the omgym website.

If you have found this website… you are most likley, like I was.. very interested in the yoga swing concept or idea. I have been involved in the health and nutrition industry for over 30 years and more about me can be read on the about me page. The problem with myself is that I hate the gym and classes but love yoga and meditation.

When I first saw a yoga swing (sometimes referred to as a yoga inversion sling) I thought that it must be quite difficult or hard to learn but after watching a few videos I decided to order one and give it a try…..  This is my down to earth review and practical experience of using it so please understand I will be pointing out any negatives as well as the positives.

I have added a few yoga inversion videos to this website and if you watch them… I am sure you will agree what an easy and enjoyable tool the yogaswing is. You don’t need to be an expert in yoga or inversion therapy as I was very inexperienced but there are lots of easy and intermediate excersises to practise and it can be used in the home or outside in the garden or you take it with you anywhere… beach, woods camping or whatever.

When my omgym yoga swing arrived, I wanted to set it up in  my garden so went on ebay and found someone selling a second hand childs swing frame…  There were lots on offer from brand new to used but as I only wanted the frame I got mine for only £10 ($15) .

However, because I live in England, I soon found out that the weather stopped me using the yoga sling  most days and in the winter months I would not be using it at all ! That’s when I decided to set it up it in the house, a much better option. (but in the summer months you can’t beat using it for inversion therapy and yoga exercise in the garden hanging from a tree or on the frame)

If you have fairly high ceilings in your house you can attach a couple of big hooks into a beam in the ceiling and you can then use the yoga swing anytime you like… There are also indoor frames available and once you set your yoga sling up indoors you will use it all the time.

Do you need to be young and fit to use the yoga swing?

Not at all, there are so many simple easy excersises that ever older people in their later years can enjoy the relaxing and gravity free sensation of doing yoga in the air. There are even exercises to build super human strength and work far better than many other fitness systems.

I am a 55 year old male, about 88 kilos and took to it immediately.  I have always been into meditation and have done the occasional yoga class but never inversion yoga and to be totally honest I hate excersise. I have tried the gym but get bored incredibly quickly on the running, walking, cycling and other machines etc.

However, since my Omgym yoga swing arrived I have been using it virtually everyday. One thing that I like to do is run the yoga slings YOU TUBE videos via my computer / TV and copy the excersises on screen. Check out the SENSUAL WOMAN DANCE video below.

The actual yoga swing consists of very strong silky material that they also use to make parachutes with and comes in really nice colours and designs. There are simple instructions to get started and various ways to hang your yoga swing  from trees, a frame or in the home.

If you have any kind of back problem and have tried inversion tables or inversion therapy, you will find a yoga swing much easier and more fun to use. The inversion table I had purchased previously hurt my ankles so much that I sold it within a few weeks.

We all know how good yoga is for us but many people (me included) find it so hard to balance and hold the pose…. but with the yogaswing you just slide in and lay back or forwards and do your favorite thing. So that’s my review and if your not sure about getting one just watch some of the videos below and then….

Check out the OMGYM yoga swing website here.

There’s lots more info, pictures and videos there and you can order directly online.

I was trying to think of some negative comments but the only thing I can say is set it up in the house as outside you are at the mercy of the weather. The quality cannot be beaten and although I have since seen other versions of the yoga swing, they can be very expensive and the quality nowhere near as good as the one I purchased from Omgym. I have added an article page to this blod site with a bit more info also.

I hope this review was helpful to you …

Enjoy the video

This is an independent review of the omgym yogaswing that I purchased a few months ago. I was looking for yoga videos and came across this amazing inversion therapy. I watched a few videos and then decided I must get one of these and so the story begins.
